Tennessee 38 - Vandy 36

November 28, 1987 at Knoxville

Vanderbilt would come out of the gate red-hot and lead Tennessee 20-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, and 28-3 mid-way through the 2nd. But the day would bring the greatest comeback in Vol history. Reggie Cobb scored from one yard out to cut the lead to 28-18 at half. Cobb picked up 140 yards on 27 carries and tied an SEC record held by Herchel Walker for TD's in a season and points scored in a season.

The Vols would outscore Vandy 17-0 in the 3rd and took the lead for good at 32-28 on William Howard's 6 yard run, seen here celebrating with Charles Wilson.

The Vols recovered a fumbled kickoff in the 4th that led to a crucial field goal and a 38-28 lead. Vandy would get a late TD and two-point conversion but the Vols recovered the onsides kick.

Jeff Francis led the Vol comeback.
