Tennessee 34 - Georgia 31

September 12, 1992

With Phillip Fulmer filling in as head coach for the Vols as Johnny Majors recovered from heart surgery, the Vols would stun Georgia in a thriller "Between the Hedges".

The Vols, wearing white pants for the first time since the '82 Vanderbilt game, would lead at the end of the first stanza 6-3. Georgia's Garrison Hearst, who would chalk up 161 rushing yards on the day, put Georgia up 10-6 in the second quarter on a 4 yard run. The Vols answered when James "Little Man" Stewart went over the top for a 13-10 lead.

It appeared the Vols would take that lead to the locker room, but Georgia struck on a last second TD pass of 40 yards from Eric Zier to Andre Hastings and the Dogs were up at half 17-13.

The Vols put up the only score of the 3rd quarter when Mario Brunson walked in from the 2, and the Vols led 20-17 at the end of three. Heath Shuler would put the Vols up 27-17 when he ran in from the 4.

Georgia would come back quickly though as they put up 14 points in 6 minutes to take a 31-27 lead. The Vols had one last shot and Shuler took the Tennessee 80 yards in 14 plays. The most critical coming on 4th and 13 when he stuck a bullet of a pass in Ronald Davis' chest at the Georgia 20. Shuler would eventually punch in the game winner from 3 yards out.
