Tennessee 20 - Florida 17
September 19, 1998
In UT's first overtime game ever, it couldn't have been in a more important game or won in a more dramatic fashion. Florida #2, Tennessee #6. The game would not follow the trend of this series in the '90's as an offensive show. This one would be won with defense.

The Tennessee defense stood tall early in the 1st quarter, allowing the Gators a mere 3 points when they moved inside the Tennessee 10 yard line twice. The Vols would take the lead in the 1st quarter when Shawn Bryson busted free for a 57-yard TD run and the 7-3 lead. Tennessee would never trail again in the game.
The Gators would get a late 1st half TD and the score was 10-10 at the break. Tennessee would strike first in the 3rd when Tee Martin hit Peerless Price for the score and a 17-10 lead.

The Gators would answer later in the quarter on a 70 yard TD pass from Jesse Palmer to Travis McGriff, and the defensive struggle was on. Deon Grant made a key interception in the 4th to kill a Gator drive.

The game would be settled in overtime. Tennessee took possession first and could not manage a first down. Tee Martin scrambled 13 yards on a crucial third down and set up Jeff Hall from 41 yards out instead of 54. Hall drilled it, but it was far from over. Florida's offense couldn't get it in the endzone for the game winner and would have to settle for another OT. Not to be though, as UF's Collins Cooper hooked a 32-yarder and both goalposts were down within seconds.
