Tennessee 35 - Notre Dame 34
November 9, 1991 at South Bend

Tennessee, which trailed 31-7 shortly before halftime, got off the mat and escaped Notre Dame Stadium with a 35-34 victory that marked the greatest comeback in UT history and the greatest comeback in Notre Dame Stadium. Darryl Hardy got the Vols ' comeback in gear when he blocked an Irish field goal attempt in the waning minutes of the first half and Floyd Miley recovered and ran 85 yards for the score. Instead of being down 34-7, it was now 31-14 at the half.

The Vols scored again as Andy Kelly found Von Reeves for the Vols' third score, getting the Vols within 13 entering the final stanza. Aaron Hayden scored twice for the Vols in the 4th quarter, running in from the 4 and catching a screen pass from Kelly for 26 yards that would eventually be the game winner.

Notre Dame's Rick Mirer would take the Irish to the Vols' 6 for the game winning field goal try that was blocked by Jeremy Lincoln with no time left and the comeback was complete.
