Three pass interceptions by Albert Dorsey(photo below) in the final period typified an alert UT defensive performance that reached its peak for the early season in coming close to stopping the Ken Stabler-to-Dennis Homan passing combination as seemed humanly possible. UT also got its second spectacular performance by its third string QB Bubba Wyche(above photo), as the Vols snapped the nation's longest non-losing streak of Alabama's at 25 games.

After an exchange of first half td's, the Vols went ahead for keeps mid-way in the third period with a choice piece of chicanery. Tailback Walter Chadwick threw the first pass of his college career, an 11-yard flip to tight end Ken Delong who stood all by his lonesome across the goal. Alabama staged a comeback and stirred memories among the faithful of 1966's uphill 10-9 Bama comeback, but Dorsey saw to it that the same fate did not befall the Vols two years in a row. Albert carried his third INT 31 yards for a clinching TD.
