Tennessee 6 - Georgia Tech 0
Nov. 10, 1956

This game was a classic Southern battle of unbeatens, both 6-0. It also pitted two Neyland disciple head coaches. Bowen Wyatt of Tennessee and Bobby Dodd of Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech entered the game ranked #2 and UT #3. The game was scoreless until mid-way through the 3rd quarter when Johnny Majors hit Buddy Cruze for a 45 yard gain to the Georgia Tech 1 foot line. Tommy Bronson took it in from there on the next play and the scoring was complete for the day.

It was a game of defense and kicking, a trademark of General Neyland coached teams that was apparent in this game. Tennessee's Johnny Majors carried the Vols offensively, gaining 96 of UT's 177 total yards.

Historically, this game is regarded as one of the greatest games in UT history. In fact, the Associated Press voted the clash the 2nd greatest in collegiate history. Below, former Vol great Herman Hickman eats his words with an assist from Ted Daffer, All American from the '50-'51 teams.
