Bill Battle got the nod to replace Doug Dickey as head coach of the Vols in 1970. He was the youngest head coach in the nation when he took over the reigns at age 28. Battle guided Tennessee to 5 bowl games, going 4-1 in those games, and fielded three squads that finished in the top 10.
Battle played at Alabama from '60-'62.
