Tennessee 10 - Alabama 9

October 19, 1968 at Knoxville

Tennessee drove 63 yards to a TD following the opening kickoff, leading to the assumption there might be an easy victory ahead for the Volunteers, but events proved otherwise. And in the tradition of Alabama-Tennessee football, this one turned into a cliff-hanger deluxe.

Richmond Flowers, an Alabama native, scored the Vols' only TD form a half-yard out.

Karl Kremser added the extra point and later kicked a 54-yard field goal for a new SEC record.

Alabama, held for three quarters to a lone first-period field goal, came on like gang busters in the final moments. Scott Hunter's passing carried the Tide 80 yards for a TD with a minute left. A two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving UT on top 10-9. Alabama recovered an onsides kick and a last second field goal attempt was then blocked by Jimmy Weatherford to preserve the win.
