Tennessee went into this game 3-0, blanking NC State, Sewanee and Chattanooga. This day would treat Tennessee fans to arguably the most famous single run in UT history. Johnny Butler's 56-yard touchdown run from North to South helped seal the 21-0 victory.

Late in the 2nd quarter, Butler darted off left tackle, cut right, then back left and broke free for touchdown. Bob Foxx would score a TD in the 4th quarter and set up another with an interception to seal the win, but the day and history book belonged to Johnny Butler.
